JROTC
Rising through the ranks to Cadet Lieutenant Colonel, learning to lead with discipline, integrity, and purpose.
The JROTC Journey
The Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps provided Perry with a framework for leadership that went far beyond marching and drill. JROTC taught the fundamentals of command: communication, responsibility, decision-making under pressure, and the weight of leading peers who depend on your judgment.
Starting as a new cadet and progressing through the ranks, Perry demonstrated the consistency, initiative, and character that earned him the respect of both instructors and fellow cadets.
Georgia Boys State
Perry was selected as one of only two JROTC cadets from his battalion to attend Georgia Boys State 2021, representing his unit in a week-long American Legion program focused on leadership, government, and civic engagement. This prestigious selection recognized Perry's exceptional leadership potential and commitment to service.
The program immersed participants in hands-on government simulation, fostering a deeper understanding of civic responsibility and leadership at the state level, experiences that continue to inform Perry's approach to community involvement and public service.

Command & Responsibility
As Cadet Lieutenant Colonel, the second-highest rank achievable in the program, Perry served as a colored senior staff member with real responsibilities: overseeing unit operations, coordinating training exercises, mentoring junior cadets, and representing the battalion in official capacities.
During his senior year, Perry also served on the Senior Advisory Council, advising program leadership and helping shape policy decisions that affected the entire battalion. His most notable recognitions included awards for Leadership, Humanitarianism, and a prestigious commendation from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
The experience of being accountable for others' performance and well-being at such a young age was transformative. It taught Perry that leadership is a service role, you succeed when your people succeed.
Spartan Ensemble & Ceremonial Symphony
Perry founded the Spartan Ensemble, bringing his musical background into the JROTC program to create a unique musical unit that enhanced ceremonial events and fostered camaraderie among cadets with musical talents.
He also served as conductor of the Ceremonial Symphony, leading performances at official JROTC events and ceremonies. This role combined his leadership abilities with his musical expertise, creating memorable experiences that elevated the program's ceremonial traditions.
National Raider Team
Perry competed on the national team for the JROTC Raider program, an elite military-style sport that tests cadets in physical fitness, teamwork, and tactical skills. The Raider program includes events like rope bridge construction, cross-country rescue, and team physical challenges.
Competing at the national level required extraordinary physical conditioning, mental toughness, and the ability to perform under extreme pressure, qualities that continue to define Perry's approach to challenges in every arena.
Building Future Leaders
One of Perry's greatest contributions to the JROTC program was his commitment to developing the cadets who would follow. Mentorship became a cornerstone of his leadership style, not just teaching drill commands but helping younger cadets build confidence, find their strengths, and understand that discipline and character are choices made daily.
Lessons That Last
The principles instilled by JROTC, integrity, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, and personal courage, weren't just talking points. They became operational values that Perry carries into his business ventures, his writing, and his community involvement. The uniform may have been put away, but the standards it represented never were.
