Music at JSU

At Jacksonville State University, the Marching Southerners represent one of the most storied college marching band programs in the nation. Known as the “South's Finest,” the Southerners have a legacy that spans decades and commands national respect, a perfect home for someone whose musical journey began in the North Gwinnett Band.

Perry's role with the Southerners combined his music background from high school with his growing expertise in video production and editing. It was a unique intersection of creative technicality that few could execute at this level.

As Video Editor for the JSU Marching Southerners, Perry was notably responsible for the 2025 “Illumination” production, producing cinematic cuts that captured the energy, precision, and artistry of the Southerners' performances. These weren't simple recordings; they were crafted visual stories that honored the program's excellence.

Perry managed the Southerners' YouTube channel for the 2025 season, overseeing content strategy, upload schedules, and audience engagement. This role required blending creative vision with technical execution, skills that directly translate to his professional work in AI and digital content.

What made Perry's contribution unique was the fusion of his musical understanding with high-level video production skills. He didn't just capture performances, he understood the music, the timing, the emotional beats that made a performance resonate.
